Alph Bingham discusses open innovation, differentiating it’s tranformative power from “closed innovation” by referencing diversity, virtual capacity and risk sharing.

Starting to think about what the new Intranet is going to be. Initially the concept of a Wiki seems appropriate with broadly the following areas:
1. Corporate. The “official version” type information, ie published policies, procedures, news etc which is published from “the company”
2. myTeam. While you may be a member of many teams this sort of content is ment to be user generated/updateable.
3. myStuff. Information published for you by you.
The one problem with Wiki is it isn’t really how lots of people use the web, for that you need more of the social networking stuff and here is a list of open source social networking platforms that could play into the intranet space. Key strength is that its the information you / your collegues believe is important and may include information from outside the corporation.
Have a look at this article from 2007. http://mashable.com/2007/07/25/open-source-social-platforms/
and this comparison on wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_social_networking_software
Andrew McAfee
Stumbled into this blog by Andrew McAfee from Harvard Business School where he tends to talk about the “impact of information technology on businesses and their leaders”
Looks like several articles on Enterprise 2.0 and related topics.
Enterprise 2.0 wont transform organisations
by Tom Davenport on March 21, 2007 11:51 AM; Harvard Business Online
I like stuff that makes sense. The best definition of Enterprise 2.0
Enterprise 2.0, or the widespread adoption of social media and participative technologies in order to transform culture and decision-making in large organizations.
And the key arguement why it isn’t the magic bullet.
Enterprise 2.0 software and the Internet won’t make organizational hierarchy and politics go away. They won’t make the ideas of the front-line worker in corporations as influential as those of the CEO. Most of the barriers that prevent knowledge from flowing freely in organizations power differentials, lack of trust, missing incentives, unsupportive cultures, and the general busyness of employees today won’t be addressed or substantially changed by technology alone
Excellent article arguing the negative point of enterprise 2.0.
One of the important aspects of ecommerce is the ability to optimise the supply chain efficiency. In this press release Kewill Solutions are announcing a forms package that will enable approximately 300 small to medium suppliers to effectively participate in ebusiness supply chain transactions across the web.
I was unable to find information on why this package was developed, ie whether in response to competition or legislative requirements in europe or simply to improve operational efficiency.

Interesting item on use of web technologies for intelligence. Most of the issues raised would be applicable to the general ebusiness area.
“The Defense Intelligence Agency is seeing mushrooming use of various Web 2.0 technologies, which are becoming increasingly critical to accomplishing missions that require analysts to share intelligence, said Lewis Shepherd, chief of the DIAs requirements and research group at the Pentagon. ” – Havenstein
The use of mashups is interesting and is the equivalent of commercially sensitive material using mashup technology for a normal business.

Australian IT – Jobs go in NSW grand plan (Chris Jenkins, JULY 27, 2006)
“NSW has unveiled its grand vision for electronic service delivery and IT streamlining, saying it will carve $565 million over four years from the state’s $1 billion annual IT and communications budget – including $20 million saved through the loss of around 200 jobs.”
So is this a threat or an opportunity?
